Draped Bust type large cents are frequently collected by varieties. Many exist for each year, since each of the dies was made by hand..
Memo
A counterfeit 1804 was manufactured from discarded mint dies. An altered 1803 die was used for the obverse and a die of the 1820 cent was used for the reverse. They were struck circa 1860 to satisfy collector demand for this rare date. Known only as the "Restrike," it was of poor quality and is easily distinguished from a genuine 1804 large cent.
