Engraving Fonts

How to choose the best font for your engraving?

A personalized gift is such a great way to show someone that they are special to you and that you cared enough about them to add a personal touch to their present. When you add a name or initials or a significant date to an item, it becomes a keepsake and a memento of an occasion. Often, it is passed down from generation to generation.

To get the best and most professional looking engraving for your personalized item, we recommend a few guidelines. This will ensure your engraving is readable and fits nicely on your item without being too cramped.

Font Options

  • Block- A basic font that is simple and clean. Very professional. Maintains legibility even with small engravings. This font is the only font we recommend for ALL CAPS. A more masculine font.
  • Script- This fancy font is elaborate and a cursive type that connects the letters. Very feminine and great for weddings and anniversaries.
  • Curlz- Curly and fun! This is a great font for kids and parties. Not recommended for very small engravings.
  • Circle- This font is specifically for Monograms and Initials. It is a modern look to the traditional monogram. Very clean looking and sharp. Perfect for men.
  • Interlocking- The traditional monogram font. This font is designed for Monograms and Initials only. Flowing script and swirls interlock to form one elegant form.
  • Greek- The go-to font for fraternities and sororities!

Fitting Your Engraving on Your Item

Always keep in mind the shape of the item you want engraved. Someone engraving a large platter that is 3 feet long and 2 feet wide can engrave a whole paragraph on their platter if they want. However, if your engraving the inside of a ring you can only fit 1 line of text and only so many characters before it becomes too small to read. For objects 1 inch by 1 inch, we recommend engraving only 8 characters per line or less.

Engraving a Date

The standard layout for a date in the U.S. is Month/Day/Year. There are many different ways to write out a date. Choose the best way based on how much room you have to place the date and how you want it too look. Other ways to write out your date are...

  • 12/2/2010
  • 12/2/10
  • 12.2.2010
  • 12.2.10
  • Dec. 2nd, 2010
  • December 2nd, 2010
  • 12-2-2010
